Finally it's over. With some interruptions of illnesses and trips, it's done! I really enjoyed working on this painting. Thanks to Meric, my model. Very concentrated work with delightful conversations. I worked while we chatted. It's possible, believe me. It still needs a slight polishing up though.

Sonunda bitti. Gorunuste uzun surdu ama araya yolculuklar, hastaliklar girince bu tarihe gelindi mecburen. Zevkle çalıştım. Ayrıca yeni bir arkadaş da kazandım. Seanslar boyunca Meriç'le çok güzel sohbetler ettik. Hem çalışmak, hem konuşmak oluyormuş anlaşılan. Hala son fırçayı vurmuş değilim gerçi.

Ada and the Plans

The little lady, Ada, is born on july 26th, a month earlier than expected.

A new me, a new life. I am planning to have a blog about her at http://kucukada.blogspot.com. It will be in Turkish but you may find some photos of her there. Have a look at it in a month or so.

Being away from the paints and brushes, away from the smell of the oil and the spirits was really hard. I miss all a lot. That doesn't mean I cannot wait and I am back. But I sense that time is coming. The little lady who had all the priviledges considering the time, looks likely to lend mom some of the time spared for her soon. I believe she will. She is a well-behaved baby, lucky me.

Actually last month I had a chance to start doing things other than child-care. I had a concert with my countertenor friend Rudi (his site is www.rudiromeri.com) a couple of weeks ago and recently I've been working on a commissioned painting. A friend of mine thought that a portrait of his wife could make a good gift for her birthday. So I am on duty again -not everyday though, but each saturday for now.

So...the palette is covered by wet colors again. Looking forward to the days of daily painting. Will be very glad to welcome you here again once I start.

Kucuk bebek dogdu. Adı Ada oldu.

Uzun suredir sizlerden de, boyalarimdan da, bilgisayardan da ayri kaldim. O kadar ozlemisim ki... Su an 'her gun bir resim'e donuyorum desem yalan olur. Ama inanin yeni hayatin getirdigi yeni renkler parmaklarimin ucunu kasindiriyor. Tek sorun, tahmin edersiniz ki vakit. Ama zamanin gelmeye basladigini hissediyorum. Kucuk Ada uyumlu ve uslu bir cocuk ve galiba annesine, kendine hediye edilen saatlerin bir kismini odunc verecek.

Birazini verdi bile. Mesela kontrtenor arkadasim Rudi (www.rudiromeri.com) ile bir san-piyano konseri gerceklestirdik. Sonra...siparis bir portre uzerine calisiyorum. Eski arkadasim Hakan'in sevgili esi Meric'in portresini yapiyorum. Hakan'in hayat arkadasina dogumgunu hediyesi.

Yani boyalar kutudan cikti. Her gun olmasa da, her cumartesi is basindayim. Ve bekleyin yakinda yine burdayim.

Back to my favorite subject: people. Still-lives, landscapes, cityscapes, all are fun. But figure paintings or portraits have always been my biggest interest. Either when enjoying other artists' paintings or painting figures myself... There is no clue about surrounding interior here. I'll tell you, this is a scene from Sirkeci ferry which connects Uskudar (in Asia part of Istanbul) to the Historical Peninsula (Europe side). Fethi and I sometimes just take this boat and go have a dinner in one of the nice little restaurants there, feeling like tourists in the city where we live. This is a quick oil painting done inspired by a photo taken in that boat. After doing this painting, I decided to do a portrait of Fethi-if I can ever make him pose for me, this time spending enough time for details and taking the resemblance issue serious!

Tekrar en sevdigim konu: Insan! Bir suredir ardarda sehir manzarasi ve naturmort yaptim izlediyseniz. Zevkli calismalar ama iste figur baska. Baska sanatcilarin eserlerine bakarken de en cok ilgimi ceken bu tur zaten... Bu resimde mekanla ilgili bir kopya yok. Soyleyeyim, resim Sirkeci vapurunda cekilmis komik bir fotograftan ilhamla ortaya cikti. Fethi'yle bazen cikip Sultanahmet'e gidiyoruz, orada turist gibi dolasip, minik restoranlarda yemek yiyoruz. Iste bu da oyle bir gece oncesi yapilan kisa deniz yolculugundan. Resmi bitirdikten sonra benzetme konusunu daha ciddiye alarak (!) Fethi'nin bir de portresini yapmaya karar verdim-tabii bana poz verirse ancak; cunku kolay is degil, sabir isi.

Another Istanbul street scene in another beautiful winter day (Have a look at the similar scene I painted-if you haven't before: "The Tram"). Crowded Baghdad Street, people going shopping, people with babies, people just wandering around enjoying the sun. When you want to go back home though, it's hard to find a spare seat in a minibus.

Bir Istanbul sehir manzarasi daha, yine guzel bir gun, bu sefer "Tramvay" yerine, basrolde minibus. Kalabalik Bagdat caddesi; alisveris yapanlar, bebekli anne-babalar, guzel havanin tadini cikaran haftasonu keyifcileri. Ama eve donmeye gelince vakit, minibuste yer bulmak zor iste, bekle de bekle...

My Wonderful Excuse

I cheated, I admit. Lately I couldn't paint daily as I promised -and actually did- before. Well, I have an excuse. A big one :) Better to tell it quick: I am expecting a baby! Moms know, in the beginning, you really feel tired, powerless. I fighted, but no, the bed won, I slept so many hours and skipped days without painting. Later energy kind of came back but then I got worried about the smell, the smell of paints and turps. Asked my doctor, told me to work with a medical mask. Believe me not easy, so I skipped some more days. It's sad to realize the decrease in the number of visitors when I don't paint daily. The truth is painting is the biggest joy of my life nowadays and I really want to keep it up. So I think I'm getting back to my old routine, so please join me in this journey again. I am hoping to welcome you everyday with a new painting here. Thanks for visiting!

Sozumde durmadim, her gun bir resim dedim, son gunlerde atladim. Ama buyuk bir mazeretim var: Hamileyim! Mujdeyi veremedim bunca zamandir, kolay degil, heyecanlaniyorum :) Anneler bilir, baslangicta buyuk yorgunluk oluyor; ne kadar savassam da uykuya yenildim, resimsiz gunler gecti. Sonra enerji biraz geri dondu, bu sefer kokulardan korktum, yagliboya kokusundan, tinerden. Doktoruma sordum, maskeyle calis dedi. Nasil zor anlatamam, bir kac gun de boyle gecti. O arada ziyaretci sayimin azaldigini gormek uzdu tabii, her gun resim yapmayinca, her gun ziyaretci gelmiyormus. Resim yaptikca mutluyum, devam edebilmek en buyuk arzum. Simdi biraz rutine girdim sanki. Bundan boyle yine sizi her gun yeni bir resimle karsilamak istiyorum. Ugradiginiz icin cok tesekkurler! (Kucuk bebek henuz bir limon kadarmis bu arada :)

Continuing with the flowers. I don't remember when I did my last flower painting, so many years ago-then yesterday, now today. I must say I really enjoyed that. It's been weeks that I haven't been to my studio. Instead, I try to paint at home. Oh, in a ridiculous condition. And here at home, "what to paint?" question leaves me almost without any answer. I must consider myself maybe lucky considering that I have a husband who loves-well at least that's the impression I got- bringing me flowers. So thanks to him and to the carnations for giving me the inspiration.

Yine cicek. En son ne zaman bu konuyu calistigimi hatirlamiyorum bile, yillar sonra dun ve bugun... Zevk aldim aslinda. Haftalardir atolyeme gidemiyorum, evde ise komik pozisyonlarda calisiyorum. Evde malzeme coktur, konuda sikinti cekmem derken, gunlerdir konu bulmakta neler cektigimi anlatamam! Neyse ki cicekleri seven bir es ve guzel cicekler imdadima yetisti.

Sorry for the 4-day break in my routine. Sometimes you just cannot fix things quickly. But I am back. Maiden's Tower again. This time the interior. A cup coffee in a winter morning, nice view, nice chat.

"Maiden's Tower"

When I am practising the piano, I see the Maiden's Tower reflecting on the shiny surface of my piano. Wonderful to enjoy that view. I never thought painting it though. Don't know why. Maybe because I was not fond of landscapes or cityscapes as much as the figure paintings-before. Or maybe it felt kinda too touristic as a subject matter.

We were there -for the first time- yesterday. It took only took five min.s maybe less by boat. We went up to see the Bosphorus panorama first, beautiful. Then we had a great lunch at the first floor restaurant. I really enjoyed the interior. It had sharp lights coming in from tiny windows and creating dramatic Rembrandt effects inside. It was a lovely day, romantic, too. Then...today I found myself doing the last thing I could expect, painting the Maiden's Tower.

Piyano calisirken piyanoma yansiyan manzara Kiz Kulesi. Seyrine doyulmaz bir manzara, piyanoyla gecirilen daha uzun saatler. Ama hic bir zaman resmini yapmayi dusunmedigim bir konu ayni zamanda. Belki manzara resmine cok da merakli olmadigim icin-onceden; ya da belki konu olarak cok turistik geldigi icin bana. Bilinmez.

Haftasonu gittik Kiz Kulesi'ne, ilk kez! Tekneyle kisa bir yolculuk, girer girmez ust kat, harika bir manzara. Sonra asagida harika bir yemek. Kucuk pencerelerden gelen isik, icerde oyle dramatik efektler yaratiyordu ki, bayildim. Cok guzel bir gundu, romantika. Ve sonra, iste bugun, Kiz Kulesi'ni yaparken buldum kendimi.

After a couple of days without any paintings done, here I am, back at work. First of all, I wish you all the best for the new year. I was in Ankara in the new year's eve. It was freezing there! Today we arrived in Istanbul and such a warm lovely winter day here. So another Istanbul painting. The tram in Kadikoy (Chalcedon) and a man breathing fresh winter air, enjoying the good weather. Done on oval board. A different experience for me.

Bayram, yilbasi, yolculuk, ziyaret derken resimsiz gecen bir kac gunun ardindan tekrar rutine donuyorum. Yilbasini Ankara'daydik, sevdigim sehir ama buzz gibiydi. Istanbul ise harika, sicacik surpriz bir kis havasi karsiladi bizi bugun. O zaman bir tramvay, Kadikoy-Moda hatti. Bankta tatli-serin kis havasini icine ceken bir adam. Oval tual. Her zamankinden biraz daha buyuk bir ebat (24x30), ilk defa oval yuzeye resim yaptim.

Kutlayamamistim. Kutluyorum: Harika bir yil gecirin, saglikli, mutlu, huzurlu...

I did this painting for the ones who kept saying "The Bazaar" was their favorite. It's always great to play with the colors. So enjoy the variation.

Amazing to see how many people visited the orange painting. It was also great to find so many emails with great comments in my mailbox. Thank you very much! Yes I enjoyed that challenge, too. And I think I'll be continuing to paint fruits in the next days. But I won't promise to do it very soon or everyday.
Coming to the painting of today, I can say that when I start struggling to find a subject matter and when it takes too long, I almost always end up painting the studio and the painter (probably myself?). Interesting, isn't it? Bruce Nauman comes to my mind. The video artist of the first generation, he picks scenes from his creative process and records them. The process becomes the work. I love those works. (Also I remember Goya's "Sleep of Reason" and the work I love done after the so-called graving by the legendary video artist Bill Viola. And Ingres' Cherubini and the Muse...). All-and more-depicting artists waiting for the muse or the struggle they have to find the muse.
So here, another composition with an artist in the studio. Remember the blue vase and the bowl, and the orange in front of the window? I had put a part of the easel next to the girl as well but then I liked this large emptiness in the composition. So, enjoy the screaming red.

Ama onemli olan o degil, studyo halleri. Kaygili, dusunceli, yogun veya yorgun. Bruce Nauman aklima geliyor. Studyo hallerini ve yaratma surecini konu alarak videolar yapan sanatci. Studyoda aklina bir seyler gelmesini beklerken top saydirisi, kenarda duran kemanla tek ses calisi, son islerinde hayvanlarla dolu studyosunu 24 saat bir suru kamera ile kaydedisi. Sonra tabii Goya'nin gravuru var (Sleep of Reason) ve ona referansla yapilan harika video calismasi, imza: siirsel videolarin buyuk ismi Bill Viola. Bir de Ingres'in Cherubini ve Ilham Perisi aklima geliyor, ilham bekleyen bir besteciyi resmettigi. Bir tane de benden. Studyoda ressam. Gerci resim de yok, resim sehpasi da. "Orange on a Black Surface"

So I did it too. Today I also joined to the crew of painters interested in fruit and food as a theme in their daily work. Never thought I was gonna do this. I am a person who is fond of human figures in her artwork. But lately I was following the growing demand for fruits in the art market. Surprisingly enough, surfing the artists' blogs or when visiting the dailypainters.com, I also enjoyed the subject so much lately. Same subject matter with different eyes, sensibilities and styles. Exciting.

It happened like this: Almost everday I get up craving for a certain color. I know it's strange. Scroll down to the previous paintings to see what I mean. Today it was orange. I had to use it, no choice. Sketched for compositions of interiors with human figures as usual, orange (color) became a couch, a sweat-shirt, a primary color of the light shining on a face... But all of a sudden I said, OK this is the day. Where else can you find an orange more than an orange? So here is it, hope you like it. (Black surface is my piano)

Sonunda ben de meyve-sebze cizen ressamlar kervanina katildim. Inanilir gibi degil. Resimlerinde insan figurunden ayrilmayan biri olarak belki de yapacagim en son seydi. Oldu. Son zamanlarda resim piyasasinda bu temaya olan ilgiyi saskin bakislarla izliyordum. Ama isin daha ilginc yani, dolastigim sitelerdeki calismalari ya da dailypainters.com'daki yanyana tekrar eden benzer temali eserleri de zevkle takibediyorum. Yani bir bakiyorsunuz, bes tane elma yanyana, hepsi ayri ressamdan! O kadar ilginc ki, her biri baska goruyor, baska hissediyor, farkli firca darbeleriyle yansitiyor...
Soyle oldu. Her sabah oldugu gibi bu sabah da bir renge "aserirken" uyandim: Turuncu! Atolyeye gittigimde karalamaya basladim, turuncu birinde bir koltuk oldu, birinde bir kazaga yansidi, birinde de yuze yansiyan isiktaki yogun renk oluverdi. Ama sonra bir an..."portakal" dedim, doganin en turuncu renginden daha iyi ne care olabilirdi bu renk acligina? Ilk "portakal" resmim iste boyle dogdu. Umarim begenirsiniz. Durdugu yuzey piyanomun ustu bu arada.

"Poetic Mind"

Do you think I am a poetic type of painter? My answer is, not really. Generally, I say things directly in my paintings. Lately my colors also tend to turn bold in character. But today, look at this. Some sort of poetry I guess.
Sizin dusunceniz nedir bilmiyorum ama, ben cok da sair ruhlu bir ressam oldugumu sanmiyorum. Resimde soyleyeceklerimi tum netligiyle soyluyorum. Renklerim de hep daha kararli, hep daha parlaga dogru gidiyordu bir suredir. Bugun ama, boyle bir sey cikti birdenbire. Sanki biraz siir kokuyor gibi, ne dersiniz?

Weekly Delights

Once you stop writing, it goes like that, silence. Creating my gallery in the dailypainters.com site, I realized when all paintings put side by side with no distracting notes in between, it looks better like a real exhibition. So last week I said, fine, give a break, leave your thoughts aside, just show your paintings in your blog.

But...that's not me! I like sharing my inner thoughts and love getting feedback and comments. The interactiveness of the internet, how wonderful. By the way, I also have some great news for you. For technical (this is the word) reasons though, I can't tell what it is exactly-yet. A surprise. Starting the first week of the new year-hopefully, saturdays will be more fun. You may call it, weekly delights, added to my daily painting practice. Yet it's gonna be another challenge for me for sure. Wait and see ;)

I also want to leave a day in my blog for my favorite painters of the past and the present. I plan to add a painting and a couple of words about each. They deserve great admiration.

So, leaving three weeks behind already in this marathon, I must say I enjoy this working schedule so much. I've even started to enjoy the struggle of finding a theme. Now weekends are more fun wandering around, watching every detail of life with the eyes of an eagle, collecting themes for the coming days. It's unbelievable how differently I look to the world around me now. Perception of particular colors, awkward architectural elements, interest in light and shadows... All new for me, the new way of seeing.

Another week takes a start tomorrow. Wish me luck and thank you for coming back.

Insan yazmayinca yazmiyor. Dailypainters.com'daki galerimde (resmimi tikladiginizda zannedersem yonlendiriyor) tum resimleri yanyana, dikkat dagitici yazilar olmaksizin gormek hosuma gitti, bir sergi gibi. Ben de dedim ki, tamam bu hafta yazi olmasin, ardarda resimlerim olsun...

Olmadi. Cunku simdi anliyorum ki; ben icimi dokmekten zevk aliyorum, karsiliginda gelen mesajlar, yorumlar beni mutlu ediyor. Bu arada size bir mujdem var. Teknik sebeplerden dolayi hala netlesmedigi icin maalesef su an soyleyemeyecegim ama. Blogumda gunluk calismalarimin yaninda, haftalik surprizler de yapmayi dusunuyorum. Bana arti bir yuku olacagi kesin ve enerji sorunuyla nasil basederim bilmiyorum ama deneyecegim. Plan yeni yilin ilk haftasinda baslamak ve her cumartesi haftalik surprizleri devam ettirmek. Biraz sabir...

Bir de yine haftada bir gunu sevdigim ressamlara ayirmak istiyorum, resimlerini koyup bir iki de not dusebilirim belki. Iste boyle, kafamdaki bazi dusunceler.

One more Friday, the last day of my second "a-painting-a-day" practice. Wow! Ten paintings already. Some are good, some are better. I won't say I have bad paintings here. The-positive- effort spent makes anything good for me. But of course you can scale it :)

I know that the result may vary, and I don't expect a comparison between a one-a-day painting and other time-spent paintings. But I am after development, I wish this working schedule will anticipate even better practices in the next days. Hope you are enjoying them.

This is the very narrow old Istanbul street with stairs next to my atelier.

Bir Cuma gunu daha, ikinci "her gun bir resim" haftamin son gunu. Inanilir gibi degil, simdiden on resim bitti. Nitelikleri daha onemli tabii ki. Ama verilen bu emegin karsiligi ortaya cikan her sey benim icin bir puan. En azindan calisiyorum ve her resimde yeni birseyler de ogreniyorum.

Her gun resim yapinca insan iddialarindan, buyuk beklentilerden arinmak durumunda. Onemli olan, her gun yapilan resmin bu yolculukta ne anlama geldigi, ne kadar bir gelisim icerdigi. The curtains of each and every house facing Bosphorus are almost almays left open. While residents enjoy the unbelievably beautiful view, vice versa happens, the Bosphorus watches them at the same time. All secrets revealed. Discussions, passionate moments and so on. No good to take it for granted.

Now I know where I am leading. Composition, photographic angles, conteurs, lights and shadows... Never in my life, I finished two paintings in a row. So had no chance to see what was going on, where actually I was leading. I think now it shows a bit. Let's see what comes next.

The worst thing is to find a theme. And no time to search for it. Painful in need of a large surface color, the blue became the sea, the sea became Bosphorus, the other formal elements followed easily. I feel like now I am making more out of abstract approach. But never eliminating figures.

Gidisatim belli oldu, kompozisyon, acilar, konturler, golgeler, isiklar... Hayatimin hic bir doneminde-kucuk ressam Yapincak'i saymazsak, iki gun ardarda resim yapmadim. Coook gunler arayla resim yaptim, onun icin gidisatim, ilgi agirligim nerelerde belli olmadi hic izleyene. Galiba simdi bir seyleri ele veriyorum. Bekleyecegiz, gorecegiz, bu yolculuk nereye goturecek.

Konu bulmak en buyuk sikinti. Malzeme toplamaya ise vakit yok. Genis bir renk lekesi ihtiyaci ile kivranirken, mavi leke, Bogaz oldu, gerisi cabuk doldu. Dikkat ediyorum, konu mazeret; soyut yaklasim, sevdigim figurlere donusuyor.

So this is the painting of today. Just finished, no good light out there. So please come back tomorrow for a better view. This is new for me, I've become very much interested in mirrors lately. But not necessarily the repetitive images they create; but their relationship with the walls, other architectural elements seen through the glass and etc.

Last week, the painting I enjoyed the most was the "Interior" of Thursday 23rd. Mirrors again. But: Scientific approach is not necessary. Because I play around for the needs of the composition, the colors and the likes. So you can play your own game too. Try to find out the scientific rights and wrongs.

This is the secret place of the ladies, the hairdresser's. No details though. I like it this way. Hope you like it too.

No paintings for two days. The weekend! After a year weekends seem so precious again. Tomorrow paintings will be available for purchase on eBay. Before that, I'd like to share some thoughts on the "painting-a-day" practice.

After not painting for long, I thought "one line, one color a day" rule will work for me for a start. Starting could lead finishing in some cases. But surfing in the net those days, I realized there was a craze called "a-painting-a-day". Just the thing in my mind. People were working each day, exhibiting their works, communicating with their followers and making money at the same time.
Duane Keiser is the first artist blogger. He started to paint "postcard paintings" and offered them on eBay back in 2004. Many followed. Please refer to the link "Daily Painters in USA Today" in the sidebar. Good info about the daily painting process.

Also visit the "Daily Painters" page which exhibits more than 100 painters' works in one page (link in the sidebar). After increasing the popularity of my blog, I will be able to join there as well. (So looking for your help :) There you will find amateur efforts and artistic presentations side by side. I think this is the good thing about it. The shared effort is what it means.
For me, this is a daily effort to improve my art. My paintings are a bit bigger in size. And I don't paint daily objects unlike most of the works there. (However, this causes a little trouble choosing a subject each day!) My opening prices will be lower than my gallery prices. I believe the important thing is to be able to continue this effort and to communicate as many people as the internet lets through my art. THANKS TO EVERYONE AGAIN!

Gecen aylarda heykel yapmaya basladigimda, heykel calistigim her gunun sonunda isin fotografini cekip blogumda sergiliyordum. Bir cesit eserin cikisinin tarihcesi olusuyordu boylece. Sonra tekrar resme donmenin hayalini kurdugum surec icinde kendime her gun bir cizgi, bir renk kuralini koymayi dusundum. Tembellikten uzaklasmak ve is uretmek icin en guzel baslangic. Iste o aralar internetle olan siki fiki iliskim sonrasinda, her-gun-bir-resim diye bir furyanin varligindan haberdar oldum. Tam dusundugum sey. Insanlar uretiyorlar, sergiliyorlar, izleyicileriyle iletisim kuruyorlar ve bu calismalardan para kazaniyorlarlardi.

Yaptigi kartpostal ebadindaki mini calismalari "a-painting-a-day" basligi altinda izleyicilerine sunan Duane Keiser bu ise 2004 yilinda baslamis. Kendisi ile ve bu furya ile ilgili guzel bir makaleye (ingilizce) yan kolondaki "Daily Painting in USA Today"i tiklayarak ulasabilirsiniz. Genel bir bakis, biraz fikir vermesi acisindan guzel.

"Daily Painters" adli link'te ise eserleri galeri duzeninde sergilenen 100'un uzerinde sanatcinin isine rastlamak mumkun. Ben de basvurdum ancak once blogunuzun populerligini saglamaniz gerekiyor. Today, the last day of my first "a-painting-a-day" week. I am exhausted. Besides, I had some other duties for today as well. So I arrived my studio pretty late, did some sketches and started a painting. But it turned out that I didn't enjoy it much. Actually I did but overworked on it, so it became a bit stiff and too controlled. So...this one is the one I did leaving the other aside. A quick oil painting, like a sketch. Uncontrolled and expressive, I call it the "Friday painting". Hope you enjoy it.

Bugün "her gün bir resim"in ilk haftasının son günü. Yorgunluğum tarif edilemez. Üzerimden tır geçmiş gibi. Rüyamda resim yapıyorum, kalkınca konu arıyorum... Bugün yeni bir resme başladım, ve çok iyi gelişti ama maalesef durmayı bilemedim. Resimde önemli bir nokta. Fazla kontrollü göründü gözüme ve geriye dönüş çok zor olacaktı. Onu bir kenar bırakıp, yukardaki resmi yaptım. Çok çok kısa bir sürede, ilkinin aksine kontrolsüz ve coşkuyla çalıştım. Diğerlerinden farklı bu resmin adı "Cuma Resmi" olsun.

Haftasonu "her gün bir resim" çalışmalarıyla ilgili bir kaç düşüncemi yazmayı planlıyorum. Görüşmek üzere.

Today I did some shopping, bought new brushes, paints and new medium. After shopping I went to some place to have some snacks. So this painting is after the sketch I did there. New features added :)

Kadıköy'de bir sürü boya, yağ ve fırça aldım. Niyetim tuali değiştirmekti ama istediğim şeyleri bulamadım. Ne istediğimi de pek bilmiyorum. Bildiğim herkesin bunları kendi yaptığı, ama bir de bununla uğraşırsam gerçekten pilim bitecek. Bundan sonra duralitin üzerine denemek istiyorum, detaylar daha kolay işlenebilecek zannedersem böylelikle, fırça akışı da kendini gösterecek. Artık gelecek haftaya... Alışverişten sonra bir şeyler atıştırmak için bir yere girdim, orda da bu resme ilk adım olacak bir eskiz yaptım. Çok şey eledim, çok şey ekledim, bu resim çıktı. Sevdim.

"Lost in a Moment"

Third day, third painting. Tried to finish before evening in order to get good shots under the daylight. I finished but I am still bad at taking photos. Wish you saw the originals... After the playful painting of yesterday, here I am with this simple subject, yet a difficult one. I am enjoying these colors though, the ones who checked my portfolio ("Yapincak's Portfolio" in the sidebar) would realize the change-from grays to whites and colors.

I would like to thank the ones who leave comments on this page for keeping this blog alive. And also thanks for Basak, Atilla, Ulku&Mike, Kardem, Mine, Zeynep, Cagla&Bob and my beloved piano teacher from Bilkent University who is now teaching and continuing his piano career in the States, Namik Sultanov for their mails. "The Bazaar"

Last summer we went to Alacati, the charming village near Cesme. The bazaar we visited was a real marvel for a painter with its big colorful umbrellas and the fresh fruit and vegetables of all sorts. After the painting I did yesterday, I realized I wanted to continue with the "whites". So no fruits in this little painting, but a lot of white variations finding their way between the colorful panaroma of the umbrellas. And sharp shadows in the service of the "whites"-or the lights.

Geçen yaz Babylon'un açılışı için Alaçatı'daydık. Harika bir yer, gerçek bir sürprizdi benim için! Pazarı ise daha o zaman bugünün hayalini kurdurmuştu. Renkli şemsiyeler ve kızgın Ege güneşinin keskin ışık-gölge oyunları. Belki bir gün aynı konuyla ilgili daha büyük bir çalışma daha yaparım. Beyazlarla oynamak hoşuma gidiyor.

OK it wasn't easy at all. I couldn't start till the afternoon. I didn't know what to do. This break was way too long. Then...I decided to paint my studio with the blank canvas and me hopelessly waiting for the muse. I like the strange architecture of the little window up there. Probably I will be working on it again some time.

The photo quality is bad, I know, I will try to download a better version next time.

Oldu, bir gün bir resim. O kadar uzun ara vermişim ki... Başlangıç çok zor oldu, malzeme eksiklerim de işi biraz daha zorlaştırdı. Konuya karar kılmak ise nerdeyse çıldırttı. En sonunda yeni atölyemi, henüz el değmemiş tualimi ve ilham perilerini beklerken kendimi resmetmeye karar verdim. Arkadaki küçük pencere çok hoşuma gidiyor, belki bir ara onu tekrar çalışırım. Fotoğraf kalitem çok kötü ama iyisini çekmeyi öğreneceğim söz. Hadi devam.

Introduction for International Visitors

Hello all. I've just realized this blog is also having visitors from other countries. Good internet! So I decided to give a brief introduction about myself.

After having spent last couple of years being active in my main profession-I am a pianist and a piano teacher, I decided to start painting again. It's hard though, after being so many years out of practice. So I am hoping this "a-painting-a-day" challenge will warm me up somehow. Last week I rented a tiny room and now I am trying to turn it into a cosy studio. If everything goes fine, I will post my first new painting on Monday, Nov. 20th. Rather than painting daily on a regular basis, maybe it will be better for me to work on longer paintings for some time. We'll see. Thanks a lot for visiting and for the comments left to this blog. Tataam işte iki gün kaldı. Böyle deyince de insanın gözünde bir büyüyor ki her şey! Neyse göreceğiz ne çıkacak, az kaldı. Ziyaretlerinizde, iki karalayıp beni mutlu etmek isterseniz her post'un altındaki comment yazısını tıklayarak da mesaj bırakabilirsiniz. Blogu canlı tutalım. Bundan önce iki blogum vardı. Duvar

Maceralı başlangıç. Temizlik bitti. Duvarların boyasını kimseye bırakmayıp, hayatımda ilk kez badana fırçasını elime almayı planlamıştım. Aldım da, önce beyaz plastik boyayı, sonra da fırçayı, daha doğrusu ruloyu-ya da silindir? Nedir? Ve... rezil ettim uzun lafın kısası. Kazımadan kalkışınca, kat kat geçmişin katmanlarını boyaya kattım, boyayla yeni katmanlar yarattım. Hepsi pürüzlü, hepsi sağlıksız yeni duvarlar yarattım. Çok da değil aslında, ikinci duvar parçasında pes ettim.

Şu an itibariyle, badana işi uzmanlarına devredildi. Ama bakıyorum da duvarlardaki kat kat renkler, yeni formlar, değişik yüzeyler yarattı. Önce soğuk odanın dört köşesinde dikilip seyrettim, sonra da çektiğim fotoları evirip çevirip karşısında dakikalar geçirdim.

Belki de ilk boya alıştırmalarım atölyenin duvarlarının verdiği ilhamla renklenir.

Evet evimin bir üst sokağında, kapısı müstakil, minicik bir atölye. Dinci bir evsahibi. Henüz boş ve soğuk bir oda. Tuttum! Artık mazeret yok. Yarın temizlenecek, haftasonu ise son malzemeler ve bir kaç ihtiyaç edinilecek. Yolculuk ise -umarım!- pazartesi günü başlayacak. Görüşmek üzere!

İlk resim son sergimde satıldı. Diğeri Amerika'da Arts Students' League'de yaptığım stüdyo çalışmalarından biri.

Bir hafta Ankara yolculuğundan sonra bu sabah İstanbul'a döndüm. İlk iş dün gece internette bulduğum ilanın peşine düşmek oldu: Uygun fiyata bir küçük odacık! Adres belli oldu ki, bizim evin tam arka paraleli. İşte buna şans denir. Gidip gördüm, ufak, bakımsızca-ama tahminimden çok bakımlı. Ufak bir oda ve yanında mini mutfak ve banyo. Badana gerekiyor, kötü bir yeşil var duvarda. Sorun değil. Tavanlar biraz alçak, o da artık çok büyük resimler yapmadığımdan dolayı çok büyük problem sayılmaz. Bir penceresi var. İçerisi ne karanlık, ne aydınlık diyebilirim. İyi bir ışığa ve bir de ısıtıcıya ihtiyaç olacağı kesin.

Heyecanlandım. Yani hiç resim yapmazken ve mazereti her daim mekan yokluğuna bağlarken, mekanı elde edip yine eski tembellik alışkanlığına devam eder de bir tek resim bile üretemezsem ne olacak? Varsayımlar... Yaşamadan bilemeyeceğime göre, bu riske atılamakta bir sakınca görmüyorum. En önemli şey bir an önce tüketici durumundan üretici durumuna geçmek ve bunun için de çalışmak, çalışmak, çalışmak...

Hergün bir resim yapma hedefini uygulamak için ne gerekir?

Uzun süredir resme ayıracak zamanım olmamıştı. Tam zamanlı bir işim ve aktif olduğum diğer mesleğim beni resim yapmaktan maalesef uzak tutuyordu. Artık o zamanları kazanmış durumdayım. Zamandan yana bir sorunum yok. Ve bunun bir lüks olduğunu da biliyorum.

İsteğe gelince, bu kadar özlemden sonra büyük bir istek birikmiş durumda. Rüyalarımda bile renklerle, çizgilerle boğuşmaya başlamış durumdayım!

Başka işlerle bunalmadığım için enerjim de yerinde. Özel hayatımla ilgili kafa yorgunluğum olmazsa bu konunun bir sorun oluşturacağını sanmıyorum.

Bu son madde ise beni kaygılandırıyor. Uygun ortam, rahatlıkla çalışılacak bir atölye ise, buna sahip değilim. Zaman sıkıntısı çektiğim zamanlarda atölyem hazırdı, ama ne kötü ki kullanacak vaktim yoktu. Şimdi ise vaktim var ama öyle bir mekana sahip değilim. Başlangıç bundan dolayı oldukça zor olacağa benziyor. Malzemeler edindim ama kolay çalışabilecek ancak bir metrekarem var diyebilirim. 'Kolay' kelimesi de fazla aslında. Onun için zor bir başlangıçla bu işe girişeceğim. Sonra gidişatına göre, belki daha büyük hayaller kurabilirim. Sonra da kimbilir...belki bu hayalleri gerçekleştiririm.
